If you are driving La Peyrecout is approximately 10 hours driving time from the northern ferry ports with all but the last hour on the motorway system. However many guests stay on the way down as the roads down from the North provide pleasant scenery and a good chance to see the country.

The main ports in Brittany are St Malo and Roscoff. The main ports in Normandy are Cherbourg and Caen. Calais in Nord-Pas-de-Calais is the most widely used of all France’s ferry ports.

Calais in Nord-Pas-de-Calais is well known for its shopping facilities. Car ferries, hovercraft and catamarans provide more than 60 services a day on the Dover-Calais route. A free bus service connects the train station in the centre of Calais town with the ferry port. There is a station situated in the centre of Calais town with TGV services daily from Calais to Paris.

Caen in Normandy is the principle town of lower Normandy. It has a large cultural and industrial scene. It is also known for its historical buildings built during the reign of William the Conqueror, who is buried there. The ferry port is located 18 km from Caen town.

Cherbourg in Normandy is an old fishing port and has been a naval base since Napoleonic times.Facilities in the terminal include a newsagent, bar, cash machine, showers and tourist information desk.

Boulogne in Nord-Pas-de-Calais is a medieval town and France’s biggest fishing port.  Facilities in the terminal include a newsagent, cafeteria and convenience shop.

Dieppe in Normandy is a historical fishing port and France’s oldest seaside town.Facilities at the Dieppe ferry terminal include a cafeteria and newsagent.

Dunkerque is in Nord-Pas-de-Calais and with its 15 km of beach is a seaside resort. Terminal facilities include a cafeteria, bar, newsagents and cash machine.

Le Harve in Normandy is a picturesque seaside town, known for its splendid harbour. Facilities at the ferry terminal include a cafeteria, shop and tourist information desk.

Roscoff in Brittany is a charming fishing town.  The ferry terminal has similar (seasonal) facilities to St Malo, with the addition of a cash machine.

St Malo in Brittany is a beautiful and ancient walled city.  Facilities at the terminal include a newsagent’s kiosk (summer only), cafeteria (open for ferry arrivals and departures), showers and tourist information desk (open in summer, for arrivals and departures).

Don’t forget to drive on the right! You will also need a ‘red triangle’ and fluorescent yellow vest in case of breakdowns – you can get fined if you don’t have them when stopped by the police.
